Bare Honesty Synopsis
Ask yourself the question, "Would I pose nude, bare my soul with honesty about
my feelings toward my body, knowing that I would be on display for thousands
of others to view." Bare Honesty, a documentary work-in-progress, is
about women of courage, strength and survival. They pose nude, bare their souls,
knowing they will be on display for thousands of others to view. The film is
a transforming journey of women, from birth to elderly, taking risks to make
statements. There is innocence, pain, trauma, tenderness, beauty and humor.
Like suffragettes, women throughout history have wielded banners; in Bare Honesty,
it is the camera that wields their protest through the therapeutic and educational
exposure of photographer Frank Cordelle and The Century Project.
About The Century Project
The Century Project is a chronological series of nude photographic
portraits of women from the moment of birth through 100 years of age.
They are babies, children, and girls coming of age, teens, young adults,
mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers. There is innocence,
tenderness, beauty and humor. The photos accompanied by women's
testimonies are highly personal and intensely moving. Because of the vision of Frank Cordelle, the project displays across the nation, educating the young
and re-educating the seasoned. In its essence, it is art being able to
bridge educational and therapeutic gaps, and perhaps most importantly, a
vehicle to stimulate thought and discussions about subjects often taboo in our
society: namely, nudity and sexuality, violence, health issues, aging,
and our attitudes toward women in general. Century is a collaborative work
of art and a joint socio-political statement. In a culture that glorifies
woman's bodies airbrushed into nubile perf ection, Cordelle's work
celebrates the other side - real women in real bodies.
